For patients needing tooth extractions or complex dental treatment under general anaesthetic, Perth Sleep Dentistry arranges hospital care at St John of God Midland Private Hospital, working alongside our anaesthetist Dr Murray Jacobs. Here’s what to expect, from admission through to finding your way there.

About St John of God Midland Private Hospital

St John of God Midland Private Hospital is a private health campus in Perth’s eastern suburbs, serving Midland and the surrounding Wheatbelt region. Opened in 2015, it’s operated by St John of God Health Care, a not-for-profit health group, and provides specialist medical and surgical care for both inpatients and day surgery patients.

What happens at St John of God Midland Private

When you have a tooth extraction or complex dental procedure under general anaesthetic through Perth Sleep Dentistry, your treatment is carried out as day surgery at St John of God Midland Private. You’ll be admitted and cared for by hospital nursing staff, with your procedure monitored throughout by our anaesthetist, Dr Murray Jacobs, before you recover and head home the same day.

  • Tooth extractions and complex extractions under general anaesthetic
  • Full monitoring by an experienced specialist anaesthetist
  • Day surgery admission, with most patients home the same day
  • On-site pathology and radiology if further tests are needed

How to prepare for your hospital visit

Before you arrive

Your dentist or the hospital will confirm your admission time and any specific fasting instructions ahead of your procedure. As a general guide:

  • Follow the fasting instructions provided by your anaesthetist
  • Arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you afterwards
  • Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
  • Leave jewellery and valuables at home

On the day

When you arrive, hospital caregivers will complete your admission requirements, confirm your consent for treatment and fit you with a patient identification band. You may need to wait in a patient lounge before your procedure, and the hospital will let you know of any delays.

Going home

As a day patient, you’ll return home on the same day as your procedure. In the first 24 hours afterwards, you should not drive, operate machinery, drink alcohol, or sign any legal documents.

Facilities at the hospital

  • Concierge service to help visitors on arrival
  • Free Wi-Fi for patients and visitors
  • On-site cafe and landscaped gardens
  • Chapel for quiet reflection
  • On-site pathology and radiology services
